What to Expect
Tesla’s Battery Materials Team is looking for a highly motivated individual to be a Mechanical Reliability Engineer for a novel battery chemical plant near Corpus Christi, TX.
As a Mechanical Reliability Engineer, you will interface closely with the Project and Operations teams to develop and implement static & rotating equipment commissioning plans while also building out equipment lifecycle management programs that you will implement as we transition into the core maintenance & reliability organization post startup.
What You’ll Do
Provide expert level mechanical engineering support for a variety of equipment in assigned operating areas
Develop acceptance criteria for and validate conformance of all hydro-testing, pipe cleaning, equipment installation, and initial run-in prior to process commissioning
Work with the project team and vendor commissioning personnel to ensure assets deliver expected performance in alignment with project schedule
Support design reviews as required (i.
e.
, HAZOP, P&ID reviews, 3-D model reviews, etc.
) ensuring the facility is constructed with suitable maintainability and reliability premises
Work with the Project and Process Design teams to ensure that an appropriate stock of spare parts is provisioned, and management systems are populated with required equipment data
Develop equipment specific expertise through a strong collaboration with vendors and third-party suppliers, and serve as the subject matter expert for the Manufacturing Organization post startup
Leverage expertise to develop and deliver equipment specific training as needed for Operations and Maintenance personnel
Lead root-cause investigations and develop risk-based, cost-effective solutions to prevent recurrence
Assist in the development and implementation of preventative maintenance procedures, work practices, operator rounds, & equipment strategies to enable efficient life-cycle management of plant assets post-startup
Drive long term reliability improvements, eliminate bad actors, and lead change management processes
Provide break-in technical oversight as needed to resolve mechanical equipment issues
Support base maintenance, turnaround, and capital planning as subject matter expert
What You’ll Bring
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and evidence of exceptional ability, including a strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and demonstrated ability to leverage this understanding to solve challenging technical problems.
5+ years in an industrial manufacturing environment, with experience supporting Operations and Maintenance organizations.
Experience with solids handling, rotary calcination and hydro-metallurgical equipment is a plus
Expert acumen in conducting RCFAs and developing/implementing effective solutions
Proven ability to operate under pressure while managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, occasionally requiring extended hours
Proficiency in ASME codes and standards for performing inspection and quality surveillance of static equipment (pressure vessels, boilers, etc.
) is a plus
Strong experience in implementing effective mechanical seal maintenance and reliability programs is a plus
Ability to communicate clearly and interface with multiple engineering disciplines, craft experts, as well as executives
