What We Want The Texas Sea Grant College Program is seeking a Communications Specialist I who will work collaboratively under the general direction of the Communications Manager to develop communications materials and publications that showcase and support Texas Sea Grant’s programs, with a specific focus on Texas Sea Grant’s Resilient Communities and Economies (RCE) focus area.
The Communications Specialist I, under general supervision, is responsible for writing, editing, and assisting in the production and design of informational and promotional materials.
The preferred candidate will have familiarity with CMS, particularly WordPress and Cascade.
Familiarity with social media management and social media analytics.
Familiarity with Sea Grant and the RCE focus area.
Video production and/or editing experience in iMovie or Adobe Premiere.

Required Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of photo editing software.
Working knowledge of computer hardware/software configuration and system administration functions for PC-based and Mac platforms.
Knowledge of project management.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with an attention to detail.
Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet and database programs effectively.
Ability to learn new online systems quickly.
Ability to present information clearly and concisely.
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Familiarity with CMS, particularly WordPress and Cascade.

Responsibilities Content Creation and Design -Produces graphics, photography, videography, and other content to support the creation of publications and digital media for Texas Sea Grant.
Assists in maintaining a tracking system for project timelines and costs.
Social Media -Creates content that supports key social media activities and participates proactively in dialog benefitting Texas Sea Grant, including RCE-focused efforts, such as Weather Ready Texas.
Track analytics to gain insight on traffic, demographics, and effectiveness and use this information to positively affect future outcomes.
Monitors key social media activities and participates proactively in dialog benefitting the assigned Texas A&M University System (TAMUS) member.
Writing and Editing - Writes content for annual reports, brochures, flyers, news releases, technical papers, proceedings, newsletters, posters and presentations, and web.
Website - Upload press releases, news items, staff bios, events, home page news, banner announcements, and other information to website.
Regularly monitor site for outdated information and update accordingly.
Media Tracking and Data - Assists in tracking media mentions, publications, and other communications-related data.
Assists with press briefings, media interviews, advertising, promotional activities, and special events.
